〔親の子に対する〕しつけ、親業◆しばしば「子育て」「育児」と訳されているが、少々語弊がある。parentingとはおしめを取り換えたり食事を与えたりといった乳幼児の世話から、行儀や作法をしつけたり人格面での教育を施したりすることまでを含めた「親業」のことである。日本語の「子育て」に近い言葉には、child-rearing、child-raisingなどがある。
